LOCKDOWN ENJOYMENT

  Autobiography
 of a mask

I am a N95 mask lying in the shop 'Jain Sons & Co.'. The shop is under a strict but honest man, Raghav. I am green in color with some yellow marks, have three tight layers and I have a price tag of '$ 24' or Rupees '1799' hanging from my right ear. I also have a friend who looks just like me but his quality is much better than of me..

One morning when I was a bit drowsy, I heard the news of the dangerous 'COVID-19' outbreak in India and people are asked to buy masks for getting themselves protected from this disease. My friend was overjoyed because now he would be sold and will be taken much care which he often thought he deserved. But I was sad as I couldn't be happy about the dangerous virus which 'MOTHER INDIA' was fighting. After all, country is more important than anything or rather anyone, even our parents.

Surprisingly within a couple of minutes a beautiful woman bought my friend. He smiled and bade me goodbye. I was spellbound ! How my best friend could be so happy for our partition ? Invisible tar ran out my eyes to the cheeks but what could I do ?

After a few days a couple with there 6-year old baby girl came to our shop. I came to know that they had come here to get a mask for their girl, whose name was Rajni. Finally after going through many masks, they chose me. Rajni was a cute girl. She wore me with her gentle hands. I bade my last farewell to my house which had given me shelter for almost a year and half.

Rajni took much care of me. She was a responsible girl and wore me everytime she went out. As I venture out I see that cruel coronavirus roaming in air. I try my best to stop them. But, why can't humans see them ? I also wonder the source of coronavirus. Rajni, after entering home carefully washes and irons me and keeps me in her drawer safely. I love my new home and also my new owner cum friend.

But my happiness didn't last long. One day after Rajni came back she suddenly started coughing. Her parents told that she had fever and Rajni assumed her shortness of breath. I saw veins of scarness on her parents' face. I was still on her mouth. Her parents in that state took us to the Belaghata ID Hospital.

After a day of examination , the doctor told tht Rajni was affected by Coronavirus. I couldn't believe my ears ! Coronavirus ! That cruel coronavirus affected Rajni also ? I was feeling guilty as because of irresponsibility of letting that virus effect her. I was lying just beside her. Now what could happen ?

Four days passed out. Rajni hasn't even opened her eyes for once. The doctor came with, a paper and signed it. Then he gave that to Rajni's parents. Her mother started crying and fainted. I couldn't understand what was happening. Someone please tell me. At last I heard the doctor saying, "Sorry, Rajni is no more ! We gave our best but couldn't save her....." DEAD ! What nonsense ? Rajni is dead ? My new friend is also dead and left me alone. Slowly, I realized that happiness can't bear me. I'm destinied to be sad and lonely.

After sometime a nurse wearing gloves picked me up and threw me in a transparent covered roadside dustbin. Just then I saw my old friend with me in my previous home. But to my uttermost surprise he didn't even looked at me.What's going on ? He was looking very happy with that young lady. I can't bear this anymore..

Suddenly the atmosphere was getting darker. I was feeling that I've a severe pain in my head and chest. My heart and hands is stopping its work. My head is being shrouded with dark clouds. After that I know no more !

* This is just an imagination. Please obey the lockdown rules.
